Just Keep Swimming

Just keep swimming," says Dory to Nemo. A simple, childlike phrase with a profound lesson: just keep swimming.

Imagine a lost fish, drifting in the vast, uncharted ocean. If it keeps swimming, it will eventually find its way—whether to its intended destination or to someplace even better. But a fish that stops swimming, refusing to move forward, faces a quiet kind of death. The death may not be physical but can feel like loss of purpose or energy. To me, that is far worse than a physical death. By staying stuck, we rob ourselves of the endless possibilities waiting to come into fruition, just by swimming through the deep ocean.

Paradoxically, moving forward doesn’t always mean action or effort. Sometimes, it means stillness—being fully present in the here and now. This presence, this awareness, is what propels us forward in the most natural, effortless way. The lost fish that swims, even aimlessly, inevitably finds its way home.

Swimming isn’t about the grand gestures -it’s as small as noticing the sound of waves crashing , the birds chirping, the rhythm of your breath, or even the hum of a broken air conditioning unit. It can mean brushing your teeth, picking up a cup of coffee or sitting in silence. The rhythm of stillness allows the rhythm of life to be born within. With this rhythm comes natural flow and inspired, intuitive action - the natural compass that guides us through life.

Life is the ocean we all swim in. And within this ocean, we face a choice: to sink or swim. This choice isn’t just physical—it exists in our minds and hearts, just as powerful and impactful with our bodies.

And if you ever feel too lost, too tired to swim, start smaller. Listen to the waves crashing, listen to the birds chirping, the hum of the broken air conditioning unit or the rhythm of your breath. You too, will swim again.

Just keep swimming.
